Often times, all people know
about the Knights of Columbus is the building they see
on the side of town or the guys they see in the black
tuxedo, colorfully plumed hats and capes with swords.
But what do the Knights really do?
The Knights of Columbus,
since its founding in 1882 in New Haven, CT, has grown
to 1.7 million members, comprising over 12,000 local
councils world wide. In 2004 Knight's and their families
throughout out the world gave $135 million to charitable
causes. In addition, they volunteered 63 million hours
of service.
In the State of Connecticut
alone in 2003, Knight's and their families gave $1
million to charitable causes and volunteered 600
thousand hours of service.
But it does not stop with
charity to others. The benefits for members and their
families are numerous as well. Activities supporting
community, council, church, family and youth.
Multimillion dollar scholarship fund. Accidental Death
Benefit for members and their spouse. Family Fraternal
Benefit, covering children from 20 weeks after
conception to 18 years old. Low cost New Member
Insurance plan. And much much more!
